Never Hunt with Hounds in Extreme Summer Heat to Avoid Heatstroke Death

Summer heat traps hot air in mountains and bushes, posing an invisible lethal threat to hunting hounds. Forcing dogs to hunt under high temperatures will easily trigger severe heatstroke, organ failure, and even sudden death within minutes. All dog owners must never go hunting in hot weather.

When air temperatures hit over 35°C, ground temperature in woods can rise above 40°C. A dog’s normal body temperature ranges from 38°C to 39°C. Once its temperature exceeds 41°C during exercise, heatstroke sets in. At 42°C, internal organs start to fail, and temperatures over 43°C will cause shock and death in just over ten minutes. Heatstroke caused by intense hunting activity kills faster and is far harder to treat than passive heatstroke from staying in hot spaces.

Hunting dogs are extremely loyal and obedient. Even when exhausted and overheated, they will keep tracking game on command without stopping on their own. This means heatstroke can strike without warning—many dogs collapse and convulse suddenly, leaving owners no time for emergency treatment.

The harm of hot-weather hunting is not limited to sudden death. Dogs that survive often suffer permanent aftereffects: constant shortness of breath, poor stamina, damaged heart, lungs and kidneys, joint wear, permanent loss of hunting ability and a drastically shortened lifespan.

Mountains lack shade, fresh water and first-aid supplies. Once a hound suffers severe heat collapse, effective rescue is nearly impossible. Every summer, countless hunting dogs lose their lives due to their owners’ reckless luck, leaving endless regret.
